SANDWICHES FOR THE HOMELESS Making “Sandwiches for the Homeless” is a simple way to donate a little time and effort to make a big difference to the homeless population of Prague. On the first and third Fridays of each month, IWAP participants bring home-made sandwiches to the K Café at Senovážné náměstí 23, 11282, Praha 1, between 10 and 11 AM. The K Café is a friendly place where we can socialize for the hour, and from there it’s a short walk to Najede where we bring the sandwiches. Najede is a center for meeting the homeless population’s need for food, clothing, personal hygiene and medical care. But the food kitchen is closed on Saturdays. The sandwiches we contribute to their Food Aid Program on Fridays guarantee that there will be something to eat on the weekends. In addition to the IWAP Charity Group’s twice monthly sandwich program, a money collection was made to purchase underwear and socks for Najede’s clients, and we were able to give 5,000 Kc worth of new items to them in December. The women of IWAP also generously contributed enough warm coats, sweaters, hats and gloves to fill an entire car. We delivered them in January. The staff at Najede are always happy to see us and welcome us warmly into their centre. It’s clean and well staffed, and the kitchen and clothing/laundry areas are always busy. Art of Giving Honor Card A beautiful and simple way to give is by purchasing an IWAP "Honor Card". Honoring someone you care about with these lovely cards (designed by Romit Berger) benefits everyone. This relatively new IWAP tradition works this way: * At a General meeting or at the office, purchase a card or several to have them handy as a gift to honor someone special, for birthdays, graduations, or other occasions. * Pay any amount you wish * Receive a tax-deductible receipt * Take the card home and fill in the "To", "From" and "Occasion" lines * Mail it to a friend or relative * Feel very good that you have made someone smile or have brought someone comfort * Feel doubly good that you have made a greatly appreciated contribution to an IWAP charity.
