IWAP's participation at the Second Dragon Boat Charity Challenge
was very successful. Thanks to everyone who participated. We took out 22nd place out of 30 teams which was a great improvement
on last year. We also received medals and a prize for the team who collected most money for charity, even before we handed
over all the money made on the day.

DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS RAISED FROM DRAGON BOAT CHARITY CHALLENGE On behalf of IWAP and our generous sponsors, the president of IWAP Sarka de Jong and the 2nd vice president of IWAP Sue
Herbert attended the Rotary Club Prague International luncheon and Charity Cheque Presentation
on Friday 10th of September at the Palace Hotel with the pleasure of seeing a professional video of the event.
As many of you will remember, IWAP Angels won the prize for the best-dressed team on the day, against strong competition
from the Pirates. At the luncheon, we collected another, more important prize. The IWAP Angels were the team to
raise the most money for charity. From a grand total of 235,000 CZK raised from the event, IWAP
Angels raised 24,248 CZK (in addition to the 15,000 CZK entry fee) - almost 6000 CZK more than any
other team. This is a fantastic achievement, and huge thanks are due to all in IWAP who contributed; the paddlers, the
organisers, those who manned our stall and those who baked cakes - not to mention the fantastic support from those who cheered
from the riverbank. We remain enormously grateful to our sponsors, GEMoneyBank and Crown Relocations, without whose
support we could not have participated, and all the other companies and individuals whose support enabled us to give so generously
to selected charities.
Rotary Club President Irena Brichta rightly said that the
real winners were the three nominated charities, and their representatives were at the lunch to accept charity cheques.
Nadace Nase Dite were awarded 117,500 CZK to help their work with children. Zivot 90 accepted
58,750 CZK for support for the elderly, and Ictus were awarded the same amount to support the
victims of stroke. Representatives of all three charities spoke movingly about how much these funds meant to their work,
and everyone involved was delighted to have contributed to such good causes while having a wonderful time at the Dragon boat event. We are all looking forward to the
2011 challenge, and after a lunchtime glass of wine Sarka rashly promised two IWAP boats!
