IWAP Announces 2008-2009 Executive Board

Organization Highlights Recent Fundraising Activities and Benefit to Selected Charities

PRAGUE, CZ – June 25, 2008 – The International Women’s Association of Prague (IWAP), an independent non-profit organization based in Prague, recently announced their new 2008-2009 Executive Board.  The new board positions are being held by the following members;

  • President, Tuulikki Forsstrom, Finland
  • 1st Vice President, Shirley Topham, United States
  • 2nd Vice President, Saskia Wouterson, Netherlands
  • Advertising Manager, Barbara Aitken, United Kingdom
  • Evening Group Coordinator, Eleanor Lurring, United Kingdom
  • Interest Group Coordinator, Patty Gibian, United States
  • Newcomer Coordinator, Christine Myhill, New Zealand
  • Magazine Editor, Sally Stelfox, United Kingdom
  • Magazine Layout Editor, Theodora Papadopoulou, Greece
  • Membership Coordinator, Shlomit Halfi, Israel
  • Public Relations Coordinator, Sandra Sick, United States

           The new members took office as of June 1, 2008 and support the efforts of IWAP until new board appointments are made in May 2009.

“As always, the start of the new year at IWAP is very exciting as summer is approaching and change is everywhere,” said Tuulikki Forsstrom, IWAP president.  “The new board represents change and growth for the organization which is ever evolving and the combined energy and efforts of the team represent many new opportunities for the organization in the coming year.”

IWAP, established in 1991, is an independent, non-political, non-profit organization whose purpose is to welcome women, both residents of the Czech Republic and new arrivals.  The diverse group represents women from all over the world who meet for social and charity purposes.  There are day events and evening gathering for those needing a flexible schedule with work or other activities.  The range of social activities includes health and fitness groups such as golf and tennis, educational groups such as language conversation classes, bridge, cinema, book clubs, arts and crafts groups, play groups for those with children, visits to local embassies and museums, day trips and many charity and fundraising activities.

IWAP Fundraising and charity efforts are on-going with monies being donated to pre-selected charities.  In 2007, IWAP donated funds to a mix of non-profit organizations in excess of $640,000Kc.  Some of the organizations receiving support from IWAP include ROSA (focused on domestic violence), AGAPE (a daily center for handicap children) and Nadani Fond Kliek where funds went to support the construction of a children’s hospice center.  For a complete list of growing organizations sponsored by IWAP, visit our website at http://www.iwa-prague.com/id30.html.
